MAURITIUS my island in the sun

Mauritius, an island in the sun, Pearl of the Indian Ocean, is surrounded by turquoise water. An island where dolphins and blue marlins share the same warm waters. An island of exceptional beauty, an island of legends where people from many cultures live in harmony. An island where the sea and land breeze caress the filao trees.

Mauritius, an island where painters, poets, writers and photographers fall in love with its enchanting beauty. Port Louis, its capital, is cosily sheltered and surrounded by the beautiful Moka range .The Caudan waterfront, with modern and colourful buildings, displays its diversified shops so proudly beside the calm waters of the Port Louis harbour where lovers stroll and linger while catching the glow of a golden sunset.

Mauritius, land of sugar cane fields, white sand beaches, waterfalls and of mountain ranges with picturesque places like Mont Choisy, Grand Baie, L’ile aux cerfs, Le Chamarel, Le Morne, Le jardin  Pamplemousses, Cascade Chamouze, La Riviere des Galets, La Vallee des couleurs, Le Grand Gaube…..

Maurice, mo joli pays, cotte mo  trouve mo premier soleil….Maurice mo ti l’ile, l’etoile de l’ocean indien, Maurice avec so joli la plage, so coquilage, so la terre sept couleres…” so well sung by legendary Serge Lebrasse.

At night, with the gentle lapping of the sea on the beach, one can sometimes hear the Sega being played. The rhythmic beat of the ravane evokes a nostalgic mood that takes you to a time of distant past.

Mauritius, a place where so much has been written about, a place where photographers and painters dwell to capture every facet of its beauty, a place worth returning to many a time….
